James Corden is getting his own late night show, but Americans haven't a notion who he is

He doesn’t even go here.

YESTERDAY, IT WAS officially confirmed that James Corden will take over from Craig Ferguson as host of The Late Late Show on CBS.

CBS made the announcement yesterday and Corden himself seems pretty delighted.

I can’t describe how thrilled and honoured I am to be taking over from the brilliant Craig Ferguson. To be asked to host such a prestigious show on America’s number one network is hugely exciting. I can’t wait to get started, and will do my very best to make a show America will enjoy.

His predecessor even gave his blessing.

All sounds good.

Only problem? Americans haven’t a notion who he is.

Oops.

So, who is James Corden? Allow us to explain, dear Americans.

  • He’s an actor. He started out with recurring roles on shows like Fat Friends and Teachers. He really came to the fore with Gavin & Stacey, though, for which he won a BAFTA in 2008.
  • He has a Tony Award. It’s true. He was bestowed with one of theatre’s highest accolades in 2012 for his role in One Man, Two Guvnors.
  • He’s a writer. Along with Ruth Jones, Corden was responsible for writing Gavin & Stacey. Last year, he debuted a new series called The Wrong Mans, which he co-wrote with Matthew Baynton.
  • He can sing. After landing a role in this year’s music-y romantic comedy Begin Again, Corden will next be seen in one of the lead roles in Disney’s highly anticipated musical Into The Woods. His co-star? Oh, just Meryl Streep.
  • He’s done this hosting lark before. In addition to hosting the Brit Awards, Corden cut his teeth on the popular sports/comedy panel show A League of their Own on Sky One.

So, there you are now.

Corden will assume the reins as host of The Late Late Show on CBS in 2015.
